Celia Linde

Celia Linde:
Swedish guitarist Celia Linde tours frequently throughout Europe, the U.S., Canada, Finland, Scandinavia, Russia, and Turkey. She is often the featured artist on National Swedish Radio-Television and has also been profiled on the BBC, Denmark’s Radio, Turkish Radio-Television (TRT), New York City’s WNYC as well as on other international radio stations.

As a recitalist Celia Linde has performed in numerous festivals and international concert Halls including the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and New York´s 92nd Street Y. She tours Scandanavia every summer with world-renowned guitarist Carlos Barbosa-Lima.

Nicholson & Whale

Warren Nicholson:
Warren Nicholson is a graduate of McMaster University (B Mus) and the Manhattan School of Music (MMus), studying under Peter McAllister, Norbert Kraft and Marc Delpriora. In 1997 Nicholson won the 1997 Artists International Auditions, giving his Weill Recital Hall solo debut concert in 1998.  He is also a proponent of new music for guitar, participating in the World Premiere of Pritsker’s “Concerto for Four Guitars” and Kampela’s “Polymetria”.  Since then he has given solo recitals across Canada; the US and has collaborated with many chamber groups; orchestras, including Absolute Ensemble, Etobicoke Philharmonic and the Oakville Symphony. He has also performed at CAMI Hall NYC, sponsored by the Canadian Consulate, Bache Miller Theater/Columbia University, Weill Recital Hall, et al.

In 2013, Warren Nicholson released his debut CD of solo guitar music entitled “Latin American Guitar Favourites”, featuring works by Villa-Lobos, Brouwer, Cardoso and Barrios Mangore.

Mark Whale:
Mark Whale, PhD, studied the violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK and in Freiburg , Germany. Having taught and performed in England for a number of years, he moved to Toronto in 2004 where he returned to full time study, receiving a doctorate in music education in 2009. His thesis focuses on musical meaning and is published online, entitled “Music as the Between: the idea of meeting in existence, music and education.” Dr. Whale has since published a number of articles related to his thesis and given papers at many international conferences.

Henderson Kolk Duo

Since forming in 2004, the Henderson-Kolk Duo have established themselves as one of North America’s premier classical guitar duos. Drew Henderson and Michael Kolk met at the University of Toronto where they studied with Jeffrey McFadden. They quickly cultivated a musical chemistry that has resulted in a dynamic and exciting performance style. As soloists they have combined for nine international competition prizes. As a duo they have performed throughout Canada and the United States, and made their international debut at the Mediterranean Guitar Festival in Cervo, Italy in 2006. In 2011 they performed and adjudicated at the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America convention in Columbus Georgia.

Emma Rush

Over the past decade, Emma Rush has established herself as one of Canada’s preeminent classical guitarists.  Known for her innovative programming and powerful stage presence, an event with Rush is one to remember.  Her career has commanded world recognition with recent highlights including a tour of China starting with the Altamira Shanghai International Guitar Festival, appearances at the Festival de Guitarras Lagos de Moreno (Mexico), the Lonestar Guitar Festival (Texas), and prestigious concert at the famed Internationales Gitarren Symposion, Iserlohn (Germany).  She performs throughout North America with upcoming appearances in Philadelphia (PA), Louisville (KY), Buffalo (NY), and many Canadian dates as a soloist and chamber musician.

Paulo Martelli

Described as “one of the best guitarists of his generation” by Soundboard Magazine and Guitar Player Magazine, Paulo Martelli has been revolutionizing the guitar scene of his home country of Brazil at the same time that he has been establishing international recognition as an exceptional performer and prolific producer.

A gifted performer, he has appeared in concerts, master classes, and on television, displaying both remarkable facility and astute interpretation. He is also a dedicated scholar and pedagogue, and through his efforts has become one of the leading proponents of the classical guitar in Brazil. A native of Brazil, Mr. Martelli began studying guitar at the age of 10 under the guidance of Francisco Brasilino and Henrique Pinto.

Duo Calixa

The flute and guitar ensemble Duo Calixa, featuring Kelly Williamson and Mariette Stephenson, was formed in 2012. Flutist Kelly Williamson is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Montreal. A specialist in flute pedagogy, she has been invited to teach at workshops all over the world, most recently in Peru, Mexico, and Japan. Guitarist Mariette Stephenson holds degrees from the University of Toronto, Royal Conservatory of Music and McMaster University. She has given recitals in throughout Canada, and is also an active and dedicated teacher.

Both musicians have appeared with other ensembles, including solo performances with orchestra and various chamber formations.  As a duo, they share an enthusiasm for the music of Latin America and are starting their partnership by celebrating that repertoire, as well as covering standards of the flute and guitar repertoire, and investigating the music of the Japanese composer Miyagi.
